I made the decision to start reading “All About Love: New Visions” by bell hooks less than 24 hours ago. Around chapter 8, I decided Audible wasn’t good enough. I made the executive decision to also purchase the Kindle version of this book so I could easily highlight and take notes as I’m listening along to the reading.
Within the last year, I have made a conscious effort to find time to read more. I have a pretty busy schedule. I am not a fast reader by any means. And the last time I read more than maybe 3 books in 1 year was easily over a decade ago. The last time I read multiple books in 1 year, I was still having to raise my hand for permission to use the restroom. With that being said, I am excited to share I read 17 books last year in 2023.

One of the books I read last year was “Ain’t I a Woman” which is a 1987 book by bell hooks. It was a very important and educating read. This opened me up to the idea of reading more of her work. Book Review for “All About Love: New Visions” by bell hooks
I finished reading “All About Love: New Visions” by bell hooks about an hour ago. I wanted to write this while the book was still fresh in my mind. My initial reaction is that the book is worth the read and I would read it again. I would even go as far to recommend this book to any human being regardless of their current views on the topic of love.
The book was a very quick read for me personally and I highlighted a substantial amount of quotes. Let me know if you’d like for me to share some of my favorite quotes from this book.
This book shines a light on the idea that love is something that we just fall into. bell hooks describes love as an act that we choose to do and share with ourselves and others. She also shares her personal experience with growing to understand love in a healthy way as opposed to the dysfunctional view of love we often experience as adolescents.
Any person wanting to open their hearts to the idea of love may enjoy bell hook’s almost analytical perspective on the topic of love. Certain chapters can be tougher to read than others. But this isn’t due to a lack of skill of the writer. It’s actually the opposite. bell hook’s views on love may spark you to take time to self reflect on what you have called love or even experienced so far in your life.
